UMPCs Part 1 - Wind vs EEE

Written by on May 22, 2008 – 7:47 pm -

The MSI Wind came out recently, and there has been talk that it might overtake Asus’s throne in the low costing subnotebook category. The EEE 701 was a great hit (though it didn’t hit major chains like bestbuy until recently), but it’s hard to tell what might be for the 900 and 901 now that many other companies have jumped in the game. The 900 has a steeper price of $550, while the MSI Wind has it as low as $399 - and for much more. It includes the atom processor (the EEE 901 has it as well, but for $650!), 80gb hard drive, an a 10 inch screen.

Atom vs Celeron

Written by on May 22, 2008 – 7:10 pm -

As you might have heard, the new Atom processor coming out by Intel is said to be featured in many devices needing low power, such as UMPCs, handheld mobile phones or other smaller devices. The atom is advertised as a low power using processor. In devices such as the EEE PC, there is debate of the older model’s 900mhz Celeron processor vs the 1.6ghz Atom processor. The Celeron is more powerful in terms of raw power, but the Atom is suppose to be more energy efficient. In the EEE, it is designed for a secondary subnotebook, where you would not need such powers and benefit from the Atom’s lower power usage in order to maximize battery life…but by how much?

SD Cards and Class

Written by on May 22, 2008 – 3:15 am -

I was shopping for SD cards recently (microSD and just SD cards for my laptop) and I realized there was a large difference in prices for some of the same brand and same capacities. Realizing why, it is because of the different Class. Class refers to the write speed. Class 2 is 2mb/sec, Class 6 is 6mb/sec, etc. The lower end would be Class 2, while the higher might be Class 6. For the extra fast, you can get special super fast cards, ideal for your digital camera (higher the write speed, the less lag when you take the picture to when you are ready for your next picture). However for my purposes, a lower class wasn’t so bad, since I will be needing to write on it only once a while.

To flashlights, or for your car, for your boat. They offer free shipping for orders over $300, so if you are buying in bulk, you could save a lot on shipping. Items such as a 24 volt lights, they have a wide selection. Such lights are used for the military. They also have a great selection for all your questions and inquiries in their help & info section for FAQs on military lights, Golight wireless lights, and remote control spotlights, and much more. Something a little different than you’d expect, they also carry a universal plastic handcuff key, that differ than the metallic variety in that it will not be detected by metal detectors, it is small, light and flexible, and is universal and can open all cuffs.
