Craigslist, more than just a classified site

Craiglist is more than just a classified site. There are many more to it than just a website where you sell/buy/trade, find a job and meet people. It may look like a fairly simple website, but people are making loads of money off using this classified site. In a different aspect, people are also finding lost and missed connections! There are many stories that this classified site can tell.

First of all, Craigslist is a fairly new site, it was created in 1994 by a software engineer located in San Francisco. Believe it or not, but this giant website (which Ebay bought some shares to!) started off by being run by only twenty-three people. It’s amazing at how large it has grown since.

Craigslist housing is quite effective because users can browse through their local city and districts for housing. There are locals that post their listings almost daily, so the site is quite up to date with their listings (unlike websites that have been abandoned). This will save everyone time with expired or taken listings.

Craigslist feels likecommunity because of the fact that it is almost run by the community. People flag down scammers, or posts that go against Craigslist’s terms and conditions almost instantly (especially in populated cities). They also have forums to discuss various topics such as careers, similar interests, psych, religion and celebrities. They cover various topics so it’s hard to find something that you’re not interested in.

Craigslist US cities follow all of the most populated cities along with smaller ones as well. Out of the cities, you can find provinces from Canada or even major cities from other countries.

Craigslist tools an be found all over the internet. This is because there are people who are highly profiting off the site. An example would be a CL auto posting tool, this tool allows people to auto post instantly (and massively) all throughout Craigslist. This is of course against the Craigslist’s terms and conditions because they don’t allow reposts at all, it clogs up the website and is extremely spammy. If you’re wondering about how people benefit from this, it’s probably because they are gaining revenue from affiliate links that are hidden in their posts.

The unique thing about Craigslist (which ultimately lead to their success) is that it’s a one stop shop for basic needs that locals are looking for: a job, housing, friends, chatting, freebies and more. Craigslist is also a highly active website with new posts coming in from minute to minute. It also has a very nice community feel to it since there are so many active users who are constantly online. Best of all, it is almost basically free!
